The speech language pathologist is responsible for providing diagnostic and intervention services for students with speech, language, swallowing, and hearing disorders. Working in cooperation parents, teachers, and District personnel in designing, implementing and evaluating interventions at individual, school, and district levels. 


Essential Functions

  1. Assess, screen, and evaluate students; effectively share results with parents and educational staff; participate in the eligibility determination process in accordance with state and school division requirements and best practices.
  2. Provide direct and consultative therapeutic services related to expressive, receptive, pragmatic language, and swallowing disorders.
  3. Participate in and write reports for meetings regarding students’ progress, such as individualized educational planning (IEP) meetings, in-service meetings, or intervention assistance team meetings in accordance with requirements and deadlines.
  4. Write reports and maintain proper documentation of information such as Medicaid billing or caseload activities, including the initial evaluation, treatment, and progress of students. Review and approve treatment and Medicaid medical billing logs of speech-language pathology assistants.
  5. Interpret the results of individual, class, school, and district assessments.
  6. Conduct record reviews.
  7. Collaborate with site special education teams to make special education decisions.
  8. Develop individual or group activities or programs in schools to deal with speech, language, or swallowing problems.
  9. Communicate and consult with school staff, parents, administrators, physicians, community, and other professionals effectively, both orally and in written form.
  10. Participate in professional growth activities, trainings, conferences, meetings, and workshops as required or assigned.
  11. Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members, and vendors.
  12. Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.

Supervisory Responsibility

The incumbent will supervise speech-language pathology assistants and may supervise speech-language pathology interns, as assigned.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time, exempt position, contracted for 151 days beginning July 12, 2020 and ending May 25, 2021. Employee will typically work Monday through Thursday. Extended work hours are required.


Required Education and Experience

Master’s or more advanced degree from an accredited institution in Speech Pathology or Communication Disorders


Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Experience in assistive technology
  2. Experience with interpreting laws, policies, and guidelines relating to speech/language
  3. Experience working with a diverse student population


Required Certifications/Licenses

Standard Speech-Language Pathologist, PreKindergarten-12 Certificate issued by Arizona Department of Education


Preferred Certifications/Licenses

Certificate of Clinical Competency


Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain a Fingerprint Clearance Card with an IVP number through the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
